It's crunch time for biscuit barrels
The UK's love affair with the biscuit barrel could be coming to an end as Brits favour the tin as preferred storage method.
Research carried out by the British Biscuit Advisory Board (BBAB), has shown a significant drop in the number of people using a barrel to store their biscuits. This is believed to be due to the increasing popularity of the newer, more fashionable biscuit tin.
One of the research respondents commented, "I stopped using a barrel in favour of a tin when I saw celebrity kitchen in Heat magazine - they used a tin, so I thought why not give it a go? And I've never looked back."
The findings also make a startling discovery about the differences between the north and south of the country. It seems that tins outnumber barrels 4:1 in the south, whereas average in the north was 2:1 - the northeast is the only region where barrels had the majority, with a ratio of 1.5:1.
A BBAB spokesman said, "We all love the barrel, it's what we grew up with, but times change - we can't live in the past forever. And what with the Internet and mobile phones, this change was inevitable."
